Office chair designed by Gio Ponti and manufactured by GoodForm in the United States in the 1950s. The design is inspired by the furniture created by Gio Ponti for the Montecatini building in Milan in 1936, a milestone of Italian modernist architecture. It reflects the growing emphasis on ergonomics and functionality in modern office furniture. The chair features a distinctive four-pronged cast aluminum base in a propeller shape, with a swivel mechanism and wheels. The padded seat and backrest are covered in black vinyl and supported by a slender metal frame. The seat height is adjustable. This example retains its original GoodForm labels from the General Fireproofing Company of Youngstown, Ohio, as well as a metal identification plate marked 1151 and Z-540. Manufacturer: GoodForm for General Fireproofing Company, USA, circa 1950.
