Marcel vertès (1895-1961), a remarkable costume and set designer, painter, engraver and fashion illustrator, was born in budapest, hungary, but moved to paris as a young man, where he studied at the académie julian. During world war i, he lived and worked successfully in new york, but returned to paris after the war to continue his career. In the late 1940s, he was invited by the batigne family to work at tapis vert. Other renowned artists who have worked at tapis vert include ludwig bemelmans, amedee ozenfant and anton prinner. Design, early 1950s in vallauris, france, at the famous tapis vert pottery. Numbered plate, limited edition of 100 copies. Ceramic plate decorated with a stylized female face, in excellent condition. Signature in the decoration and on the background. Diameter: 22 cm.
