Large decorative ceramic plate made by Karl Niemann for Kähler in Denmark in 1954. The hand-painted decoration features two stylised figures surrounded by floral motifs in green, ochre, and black tones. The expressive composition and free lines evoke the modernist and expressionist aesthetics of post-war European ceramics. Karl Niemann was one of the artists associated with Kähler during the 1950s and developed a personal decorative language combining painting and ceramics. In very good vintage condition with beautiful nuances of glaze and a patina consistent with age. A strong decorative piece of modernist Danish design.
