Vintage ACCOLAY ceramic hand candle holder

The small candle holder is in perfect condition, no accidents, no cracks or chips. It was turned and then enameled with a beautiful straw yellow enamel, simple and quite rustic. This is a pretty accolay ceramic, marked on the reverse with a stamp, accolay france. The term accolay pottery refers to the production of a community of potters established in the village of accolay, in the yonne department. This production center was created by four former students of alexandre kostanda. Active from 1945 to 1989, their pottery is distinguished by great technical inventiveness and extremely abundant production. The proximity of the national 6 gave the potters of accolay the opportunity to create spectacular exhibition spaces, with an incomparable offering. Indeed, the community of potters exploited the proximity of the national 6 by investing in service stations to make them permanent exhibition sites on the parisian tourist migration circuit. Their exhibition buildings, inspired by the constructions of the 24 hours of le mans circuit, became the obligatory stopover for vacationers in transit. The base of the candle holder measures 11 cm in diameter, and it can accommodate a candle with a standard classic diameter of approximately 2 cm. High quality french work from the 50s and 60s.
