They were created at the beginning of the 20th century by alphonse cytère, director of the sapcr (anonymous society of ceramics of rambervillers), a manufacturer of varnished sandstone pipes used for underground water transport. Eager to develop and diversify his production, he created a workshop for the manufacture of artistic sandstone. He called upon prestigious artists such as louis majorelle, jacques gruber, eugène vallin or parisians such as charles virion or charles catteau who drew models that were later published in series. These masters of nancy's school and the art nouveau movement will lead these flaming sandstones to their rise.
