This stoneware vase was created by robert deblander around 1968. Biography of robert deblander (1924 - 2010) robert deblander was born in paris in 1924. He studied at the school of decorative arts in paris and began in 1946, a initiatory journey through the traditional centers of ceramics, notably in dieulefit, vallauris and st-amand-en-puisaye where he did several internships. Returning to paris in 1949, he created his workshop in neuilly-sur-seine where he worked on classic earthenware. His oxide decorations are developed on non-figurative themes. He regularly exhibits at craft fairs, which allows him to distribute his production through boutiques and department stores. In the 1950s robert deblander was one of the first to think of ceramics as a medium for painting. Indeed its decorations are abstract, and its enamels yield nothing to the pigments of the painters. But deblander does not just exercise his mastery as a painter, he modifies the shapes obtained on the wheel by unbalancing them, flattening them, pinching them and cutting them out. In this way, he obtains surfaces more suited to his decors, and a non-symmetrical modernity. His abstract style most often achieves a perfection of balance in the composition. From 1961, more interested in the invention of new forms, he devoted himself for around twenty years to monochrome sandstone. In 1958, robert deblander settled in a hamlet of st-vérain, so he wanted to reconnect with his first love, sandstone. This did not go without setbacks. He had to change workshops several times, and settled in 1962 in les mottes, in st-amand-en-puisaye, then.
