Vintage Spanish handmade plate (probably Talavera - Castile)

Superb enamelled earthenware plate, stamped intaglio Made in Spain. Hand-painted, it represents a stylized lion in deep cobalt blue, surrounded by a graphic yellow and blue decoration. A vivid and powerful contrast that makes it a piece of character, both decorative and full of symbolism. Stamped intaglio Made in Spain: most likely produced in Talavera de la Reina (Castile), deep cobalt blue is a traditional signature, the plates often feature stylized animals, scenes or symbols (lions, birds, fish) and the massive export in the 60s–80s led to this type of intaglio marking "Made in Spain". Diameter 20 cm. Good condition, slight wear on the border (see photos). Can be hung. A sunny and graphic piece, ideal for mix & match wall decoration. The lion, a rare motif in Spanish ceramics, makes this a unique and sought-after plate.
