Optical vase, designed by Jan Drost for the Ząbkowice Glassworks, was created in the 1970s – a time when Polish glass design was entering its golden age. Made of pressed glass with a cool, bluish tint, it combines an elongated, oval-cylindrical shape with a distinct geometric texture; symmetrical grooves on the surface give it an effect of optical depth and structural lightness. The shiny finish and visible small air bubbles in the mass not only reveal the forming technique but also document the authenticity of serial production from this period. The proportions – height 17 cm, rim width 13.5 × 8.5 cm – suggest a form intended for displaying single flowers or as an independent decorative detail. The vase is in very good condition, with no damage or signs of repair. It tells the story of a time when the designer explored the optical possibilities of pressed glass, treating this medium as a noble material, not just utilitarian. In the rhythm of repetitive grooves and the cool clarity of the glass, one can find a fascination with light, technique, and geometry from the modernist 1970s, but without the coldness of laboratory precision. The vase seems to invite light inside, rewarding the eye with a subtle play of reflections and a soft shadow cast on the tabletop – a quiet story of delight in the simplicity of form and material. It can be combined with heavier ceramic vessels or smooth wooden surfaces, highlighting the contrast of textures. The vase works well against white, concrete, or matte neutral walls in mid-century modern and collector's arrangements, where geometric objects emphasize the clear structure of the interior. It is worth pairing it with minimalist graphics or a single branch – so that the optical motif and the clear line of the design fully resonate. It is recommended to wash the glass with a soft sponge and lukewarm water, without aggressive detergents; this will protect the surface shine and preserve the distinct pattern of the grooves. The authenticity of the Ząbkowice manufactory is confirmed by the features of pressed glass forming and subtle air bubbles in the material's structure.
