Important Murano Sommerso Centerpiece - Attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso (1950s/60s) - 65 cm / 8 kg. Exceptional and monumental Murano glass centerpiece. Made using the complex "Sommerso" technique, this model features elongated organic lines resembling wings and is attributed to the famous Italian designer Flavio Poli during his artistic direction at Seguso Vetri d’Arte (circa 1950-1960). AESTHETIC AND TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS This glass sculpture stands out for its extraordinary dimensions and the elegance of its aerodynamic profile. The sommerso technique allows for the encapsulation of multiple layers of colored glass within a thick matrix of clear crystal. The object offers a spectacular play of light thanks to the combination of vibrant color layers: a deep blue core, highlighted by a bright yellow rim, topped with a wide ruby/magenta corolla, all enveloped in translucent glass. The base is perfectly ground and polished. DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT Maximum width (from tip to tip): 65 cm. Maximum height: 25 cm. Weight: approximately 8 kg (These monumental dimensions make it a centerpiece for a contemporary or classic interior). HISTORY AND ATTRIBUTION Flavio Poli (1900-1984) is a major figure in 20th-century glass design. Known for his award-winning work at the Milan Triennale and the Brussels World Expo (1958), he elevated the sommerso technique at Seguso. Like the vast majority of Murano productions from this era, the piece is not signed at the tip but is identified by its technical characteristics, design, and color palette unique to the manufacture. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition. No chips, no scratches, and no cracks. The piece has retained all its brilliance. Only minor micro-scratches from normal use are noted at the base, testifying to its authenticity and age.
