Traditional wooden neck support – Ivory Coast

Brought back from Côte d'Ivoire, this traditional neck support has been carved from a single block of solid wood. Used during rest periods in the fields, it was designed to support the neck and keep the head off the ground during a short nap. Its deliberately simple shape, consisting of a slightly curved plate resting on two short legs, directly addresses this everyday use. The wood has a dark and deep patina, as well as cracks, irregularities, and signs of use that testify to its history. Both a functional object and a sculptural piece, it can now be displayed as a collector's item, placed on a console, shelf, or coffee table.
