Gobanese finds, 20th century decorative art flea market offers for sale: School of Jules Ziegler, large pitcher in brown sandstone from Beauvaisis, decorated with vines and bunches of grapes in relief with in medallion the allegory of the drinker in barrel. Very beautiful model from the 19th century, 1850 period. The handle of the pitcher is a vine branch, very high quality manufacturing. The brownstones of Beauvaisis have been renowned since the Middle Ages for the quality of manufacturing and the nobility of the clay used to make the pieces. They have been renowned throughout France since the 15th century. Jules-Claude Ziegler (1804-1856), French ceramic painter and photographer. He settled in Neighborlieu in 1839 and created the salt sandstone technique in the Beauvaisis workshops, followed by the production of high quality pieces. This pitcher is part of this production, and is part of what we call the Ziegler school concerning brownstone objects from Beauvaisis dating from this period. He is in competition with Charles Greber, but his pieces are easily recognizable by the relief application of his decorations and a caramel brown covering, giving a darker appearance to the sandstone of which ours is one. He's in perfect condition. Height 29cm. Width 18cm. Depth 14cm.
