Pirot rug is a traditional product of textile crafts in the Stara Planina region, mainly in the Pirot district. The main feature is that the Pirot rug has no face, but two faces are completely identical, which makes is the case nowhere else in the world. Throughout history, pirot carpet weaving developed outside the city in surrounding places such as chiprovtsi, samokov, lom, berkovci. In the 19th century, pirot weavers intermarried in Knjaževac and Dimitrovgrad, where they also passed on their know-how of weaving pirot carpets. Based on this, later carpet weaving developed in Novi Pazar as well as in many places in Bosnia such as Gacko, Foca and Sarajevo.
