Antique french pewter traditional urn shaped lamp base with dancing cherubs.this beautiful lamp base dates from the late 1800s and would have originally been a oil lantern.it has been redesigned and crudely electrified at some point in its long life to make a lamp.the top piece comes of to reveal the original oil well. The details around the base are exquisite with a row of winged cherubs some holding hands and dancing and one playing a pipe. There are ribbons and swags and beautiful intricate floral details. The bottom is round with leaf and floral details and a bead effect around the edge.the lamp is working with a gold colour flex on/off switch and a 2 pin european plug and takes a large screw in bulb. At the top of the base is a gold metal piece which leads to a white bulb and shade holder which is marked. The pewter base as a lovely aged patina it has been cleaned but not polished so you can decide on the finishwe recommend that all electrical items are checked by a qualified electrician in your own country to comply with local safety regulations.
