Pair of andirons with sphinxes from the Directoire period, late 18th century or early 19th century. Partly attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) after a model by Louis-Simon Boizot. Andirons in sculpted and gilded bronze featuring sphinxes, the base centred with a star. Twisted feet. French work circa 1800-1810. Dimensions 27 X 22.5 X 12 cm.
