Description
Wooden sculpture of the “trinacria” or “thrinacia”. The triskele has served as the emblem of Sicily since antiquity. From the ancient Greek "trinakria" meaning "three points". This old name for Sicily given by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC because of the triangular shape of the island with its 3 capes. It represents the head of a woman, the Medusa, one of the three Gorgons, winged and topped with a knot of snakes and ears of wheat, from which three bent legs radiate, as if seized in mid-race. “Trinacria” is the symbol of Sicily, so much so that it is represented on the island's flag. Italian. Dimensions: 26 x 23 cm.
