Description
Charming little louis-philippe period box in native wood with marquetry net and the word "smell" inlaid on the lid. The interior covered with blue fabric and purple velvet includes two storerooms where there are two small porcelain cups (one missing) that were used to contain ointments or salts. Indeed, women wearing very tight bodice were very often prone to discomfort, and had to breathe salts to regain morale. France, louis-philippe period, circa 1840.
