Oil on canvas by Blasco Mentor 1956

Blasco mentor (1919-2003) Oil on canvas. "les remailleuses de filets" Signed lower right and dated 1956. Dedicated on the back. Presented in a gilded Montparnasse frame (slight accidents) Dimensions with frame: 55x63cm. Dimensions without frame: 33x41cm. Very good state. *mentor (1919-2003) was born in Barcelona in November 1919. It was at the school of fine arts in his hometown that he made brilliant studies in painting and following Picasso, he obtained in 1933 and 1934, the silver medal (front, back), there were only three painters to receive this distinction: Picasso, Clavé and Mentor. Engaged in the Republican army from 1936 to 1939, mentor fled the Franco dictatorship in France where he took refuge. With snow (nieves), his muse and his lifelong companion, who takes him in, cares for him and saves him from deportation, he settles in solliès-toucas. On a hill in this pretty village in the Var, they build together, year after year, an extraordinary house, the "casa nieves" and create a garden for it, a fabulous setting, which hosts numerous sculptures. Simultaneously, mentor works in Paris in his workshop at Impasse de la Grange-aux-Belles, (workshop which has now disappeared). In 1953, he won the drawing prize in Paris, as well as the critics' prize, and in 1966, that of the painters witnesses of their time for all of his work. In 1967, he received a series of prizes in Montrouge and in 1968, for a 400 m² wall decoration in Courneuve, made in oil and dedicated to the epic theme of "the conquest of happiness", mentor was named "out of competition " at the critics' prize, with a special mention awarded unanimously. In 1974, he was the only artist chosen for the inaugural exhibition of the artcurial international art center, before being "ambrogino d'oro" in Milan the same year. Then, in 1976, he received the seal of this city for a fresco, the largest in Europe then produced, Castiglione Palace at the Tourism Union.
