Dr. René collignon was born in metz (57) in 1856 and died in jaulny (54) in 1932. He is a military doctor and anthropologist, distinguished in particular for his studies in social medicine and anthropology. He studied the different populations of france, and differentiated typologies by region. His studies served as the basis for french ethnology. He spent his retirement in cherbourg and became curator of the museum. During his retirement in cherbourg, he was a pupil of félis delteil (born in cambrai in 1869 and died in cherbourg in 1936), sculptor and creator of the school of fine arts of cherbourg in 1912. He most likely brought this bust back with him to lorraine before his death, showing the artist's interest in his work (the bust was found during a succession and sold in the auction room in lorraine).
