Song of the Night / Harald Kreutzberg. Waldemar Fritsch (1909-1978) Produced in 1951, Germany. Model number 1864/6. Signed and dated "W. Fritsch 51" on mould (verse) Stamped 'Rosenthal' H 29, 5 X W 26 X D 14 cm. Late Art Deco white porcelain sculpture depicting the German dancer Harald Kreutzberg (1902-1968), designed by porcelain sculptor and ceramist Waldemar Fritsch (Sudeten-German, 1909-1978) and made by Rosenthal, Germany, in 1951. Titled Song of the Night or Harald Kreutzberg, the sculpture represents a figure kneeling with raised arms, modeled after Kreutzberg's performance in the Gesang der Nachen series in the 1930s. Regarded as the "best dancer since Nijinsky", Harold Kreutzberg a famous German dancer, choreographer, and actor, is renowned as the most famous male representative of the 20th century German Dance. Kreutzberg became the leader of the Vienna State Academy for Dance in 1941 and received the German Dance Prize for his life's work in 1952. State of Conservation: Overall great condition. Minimal signs of wear; no visible chips, cracks or hairs. Model numbered and stamped by Rosenthal, Germany; signed and dated by the artist 'W. Fritsch 51'.
