Rare model. 19th century head jug or "dourne" Water jug with comb decoration. Terracotta decorated with combed white linear stripes. The white kaolin engobe décor is called "the comb".the pouring neck is framed by two ribbed flat handles. it lacks a handle at the back, very discreet. comes from a family home, south of cahors. Height: 28 cm maximum width: 38 cm. weight: about 3500gr. Tradional pottery of the quercy, brown terracotta, 4 handles, 1 pouring collar. The dourne is part of the family of head jugs designed to contain domestic water. Its shape is very bread-wide and not very open. It has a tubular beak and one or more flat handles. The quercynese dourne has four handles. Its thin walls made it light and favoured a sweat that would cool the water.
