His son, émile-justin, took over the management of the factory in 1853 and built the menier empire. His success earned him the nickname "cocoa baron". His three sons, henri, gaston and albert, then became owners of the company and divided up the functions. Appointed president of the union des chocolatiers et des confiseurs de france in 1882, gaston was solely responsible for the menier establishments from 1913, after the death of his brothers. He forged a worldwide reputation for the brand, but his heirs were increasingly losing interest in industrial production. The company was finally bought in 1965 by the ufico-perrier group.
