Description
Nice old painting on wood panel whose process is very original: it is noted at the back that it is photopainting: it is a full-length photo of a sailor in black and white inserted on a painted seaside decoration (oil painting). I found it because I find it pretty and intriguing, I had never seen or even heard of this process on old paintings, I did not find a date on the painting but this term of photopainting would date from the end of the 19th century). The setting is also nice, carved wood, gilded. At the back, on the wooden panel that serves as a background, various pencil annotations and a stamp of the photographer: g. Sauvage, portraitist, paris 15th, specialist in photopainting... The set does not hide its age: stains and various marks on the paint as on the frame (i cleaned the whole with a cotton swab soaked in water, maybe we can do better, but not being a specialist, I preferred not to try anything else), and beetle holes on the wooden panel at the back, not active, but that I still treated by injection of white vinegar. It measures 28.5 cm by 22.5 cm for a thickness of 1.5 cm at the frame and a weight of about 400g.
