Old glazed terracotta pottery, family home "Poterie d'Albi", France, 1970s

The pottery of albi comes from the factory created by the bergeal family in 1891, in lescure d'albi, on the banks of the tarn. The bergeal house was first dedicated to the manufacture of bricks and tiles for the houses of albi, essential elements of the heritage of this famous "red city" and its famous cathedral listed as a unesco world heritage site. It was in the 1960s that the production of the factory extended to horticultural and culinary ceramics. The bergeal factory then took the name of "poterie d'albi", a signature engraved on pottery recognized as a label of authenticity and traditional know-how. From this time, "poterie d'albi" chains gold palms and trophies, rewarding the innovation of the techniques of its ceramics, in particular that of "jaspé", a marbled and speckled coloring with shades of golden ochre reminiscent of those of jasper. Our ceramics are made of "jaspé" and signed with the old name "poterie d'albi" (this company changed its name in the twenty-first century, to be called today "les poteries d'albi"). This signature "poterie d'albi" testifies to the authenticity of its age and its quality label. It has some minor defects (see photos) without affecting its functionality. Some traces are, moreover, distinctive signs of the imprint of the human hand and the authentically artisanal realization of this pottery. They testify to the age and resistance of this beautiful piece for more than 50 years.
