Pair of vintage gimbal table candle holders/candle wall sconces, solid brass, 1940s ca, English

These vintage chamber sticks have been gently cleaned whilst respecting the patina of age. They are sold with a pair of new quality beeswax candles and are ready to use. Cleverly designed nautical candlestick, a gimbal originally used on ships as its swinging appearance keeps the candle straight in a moving vessel. As the vessel swayed, the hinged weighted candle holder also swung with the movement, ensuring that the candle with the fire remained upright. The gimbal can be held, used on a table or hung on the wall. The design makes these table/wall sconces well suited for flexibility whether in a boat or at home, where it is not possible to have an electrical cord. The bolts on the side can be tightened to hold the spark plug in the preferred position. There are also black rubber washers to ensure the vertical position is tight. At the nozzle, where the candle is placed, there is a vintage removable lampshade holder. This holder sits on top of the candle and holds the removable brass shade above it. As the candle burns, the shade can move down at the same time. These bedroom sticks are finished with vintage polished solid brass lampshades. The decorative pattern features linear bands at the top and bottom with raised foliage details in between. Each candlestick carries a candle. Each has a traditional quality beeswax candle. Two new extra long quality beeswax candles are included in the price, these can be cut to the desired height. To attach these sconces to the wall, there is a foldable metal triangular ring on the back of each frame. Both vintage gimbal candlesticks are in very good condition for their age. The vintage patina has been preserved. The main frames, swivels, shade brackets and pierced shades are all sound with no damage or missing parts. The brass surfaces feature the original clear lacquer as well as a warm vintage patina adding character, with minor rubbing and a few small marks, all related to age and wear.
