Candy box signed d'argental (paul nicolas - 1875 - 1952) - 1920s candy box signed d'argental (paul nicolas - 1875 - 1952) - 1920s acid-etched floral decorations. Lotus or water lily motifs. Multi-layer glass, satin background in yellow tones, burgundy floral patterns, blue frétel. Signed on the edge of the lid. Perfect condition, no chips or cracks. Some scratches from use on the underside. Beautiful crystalline resonance of the material which rings like a bell which denotes a production by the cristallerie de saint-louis. Paul nicolas comes from the nancy school. Student of émile gallé, whose company he joined in 1894 after a brief stint with the architect charles andré. In 1919 he created his own company with three artists from gallé: pierre mercier, emile villemaux and eugène henri windeck and the support of cristalleries de saint-louis. He produced, going against the tastes of the time, art nouveau glassware close to the industrial series of the gallé establishments still in operation. The blanks are produced in saint louis, while the acid engraving is carried out in nancy, in his workshop.
