Woodblock print by kihei sasajima (1906-93), vintage artwork 1971. In this print by sasajima, there is a lively rhythm in the band of clouds. The design seems, in a sense, to be about movement. Yet the majestic temple rises above it all, imposing a contradictory feeling of stillness and permanence. A close look at sasajima's technique rewards the effort: the deep grooves in the unprinted areas add to the vivid rendering of japan's iconic symbol. Sasajima's works are part of numerous public collections. Condition: good print, brown spots mainly at the bottom, stuck to the paper backing, heavy embossing. Please view photos to assess condition. Signature: “k. Sasajima” in pencil. Lower right margin seals: artist seal: red “sasa” seal in lower right margin publisher: self-printed and self-published; ed. No. 22/200 date: 1971 borderless printing approx.: 22 X 22 cm; 27 X 27 cm with margins I am at your disposal to answer all your questions. Shipping well packaged with a tracking number.
