This lovely glazed ceramic platter is signed underneath LUC, for Auguste LUCCHESI, born in 1913, with the mention Agave, which is likely the name of the model or collection, as I have also found traces of cups with this mention, and Vallauris since this ceramist had a workshop there from 1951, where his son-in-law Gérard Damiano joined him in 1961. This workshop definitively closed its doors in 2005. Two elements lead me to believe that this platter dates from the late 1950s or early 60s. On one hand, Damiano directed the workshop towards a more artistic production, whereas this platter was originally a cheese platter, featuring a hole for the handle (which is missing but easy to find at a flea market), thus it is utilitarian, but without the material effects and bulges typical of the very early production of Luc. On the other hand, the signature is handwritten and not stamped as is the case with more recent ceramics. For me, the ceramics named "Agave" are undoubtedly the most successful of Luc's production, with a refined decor and beautiful soft colours, here a bluish green on a milky white and grey background, which are also the colours found in the work of Robert Picault. The background colours have been applied (and removed in places) by turning, hence this beautiful effect of concentric circles in very slight relief. The handle is missing, but this platter could also serve as a fruit or cheese platter, placed in the centre of the table, and why not as wall decoration! This platter is in good condition, with neither cracks nor chips. The outer concentric circles in very slight relief show some missing parts, but it seems to me that this is original, due to the technique used to create these striations and not from later abrasions or wear. Similarly, there are a few marks around the edge of the platter. This platter measures 30 cm in diameter and has a thickness of 2 cm.
