The ID-S floor lamp designed by Ettore Sottsass for the Austrian lighting manufacturer Zumtobel in the 1980s. Characterised by its slender architectural structure, rectangular base and distinctive adjustable reflector with a glass diffuser, the lamp combines functional lighting with Sottsass's unmistakable minimalist approach. Designed as an indirect-direct light source, it directs light towards the ceiling while reflecting part of it downwards. The small red push-button switch adds a subtle signature detail to this otherwise restrained design. The ID-S was one of the first results of a long-standing collaboration between Ettore Sottsass and Zumtobel, which began in 1986. It was first presented publicly at the Hannover Messe in 1988 and received an iF Design Award. Good vintage condition with a few minor, age-related surface scratches consistent with normal use.
