A pair of armchairs designed by Isamu Kenmochi, circa the late 1960s. These armchairs perfectly embody the style of Japanese modernist design. Their bent beech wood structure creates a continuous line between the armrests and the base, giving the piece a soft and fluid silhouette. The seat, generously padded, has been reupholstered in a woven red fabric. Here, Kenmochi reinterprets the shapes of pre-war Japanese chairs with a distinctly modern spirit, typical of the 1960s and 70s. A beautiful synthesis of traditional craftsmanship and modernism. Manufacturer: Akita Mokko, circa 1965. Provenance: Hotel in Hokkaido, Japan.
