Very beautiful oil on isorel by Jeanne Langlois-Bellot (1894–1986), titled "On the Nile" and signed at the bottom left. Egyptian scene depicting figures dressed in black in a landscape of the Nile, with palm trees, architecture, and mountains/pyramids in the background. Tones of greens, blues, ochres, and blacks, with a very graphic and modern composition. A travel painting with synthetic accents, whose simplification of forms, flat colours, and hieratic treatment of figures evoke the world of the Nabis, particularly Paul Sérusier. Dimensions: 82 × 49 cm with frame. Some traces and marks related to age, visible in the photos, but which do not detract from the charm and presence of this work. An original piece of French painting from the 20th century, ideal for a characterful interior or a modern art collection. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris after the First World War, Jeanne Langlois-Bellot studied and exhibited alongside her master, the painter Willem Van Hasselt (president of the Académie des Beaux-Arts). An artist of figurative and modernist sensitivity, she is distinguished by her soft geometric compositions, forms, and chromatic contrasts. Although based in Paris, her canvases capture the vibrant light of her many travels around the world: Italy, Egypt, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, and Holland. She was an active figure in the Parisian art scene, regularly exhibiting at the prestigious Salon of the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors between 1949 and 1958. Notable recognition: the French state acquired one of her works on 23 September 1952.
