Original Mario Botta chair from the 1980s for Alias. A chair available. During the 1980s, the famous Swiss architect Mario Botta worked with the manufacturer Alias as a designer on a whole range of furniture. Bottas' ingenious designs are often composed of simple geometric shapes, while creating unique complex spaces. See images 3, 8 and 9 in this publication to see some of his stunning architectural works. The frame of the Quinta chair is made of metal tube and the seat is made of folded perforated sheet metal. The shape of the backrest and seat in perforated steel gives flexibility to the material and allows for comfortable sitting or leaning. The chair, originally made in Italy, is no longer in production today. Quinta is not just a chair. Rather, it's a piece of design and architecture history that you can sit on. Designed in 1985, this iconic chair demonstrates the influence of Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn and Carlo Scarpa on Bottas' work. The distinct lines of the chair are reminiscent of the architect's work for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art building, where the chair stands on display today. This list is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the last examples of the original production of this collectible and iconic design.
