This Chinese blue and white porcelain plate dates from the Kangxi period (1662–1722). In the centre, a bird perches on a pierced rock among peonies and chrysanthemums; the rim is painted all round with flowering branches. The plate was later mounted in Europe with a silver handle, turning it into an elegant serving basket. On the underside is an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark (Ming dynasty), as was often applied as a homage during the Kangxi era. The silver handle is attached to the rim with two clamps. Condition: very good. No chips, hairline cracks or restorations visible. A few small kiln spots (black dots) in the glaze, as is usual with Kangxi porcelain. Light signs of use on the centre. The silver handle is firmly attached and has a soft patina.
