Oil on canvas from the studio of a contemporary painter. A luminous composition depicting a small marina or an inland mooring, bustling with numerous sailing boats moored in the foreground. The white, blue, red, and yellow hulls line up across the width of the composition, while the slender, vertical masts structure the space and rhythm the scene. Beyond the water, low vegetation and a shoreline in green, brown, and ochre tones close off the horizon. The treatment of the water plays a major role in the composition: the reflections of the boats, masts, and pontoons are freely decomposed into broad horizontal and vertical strokes, blending turquoise, ultramarine blue, water green, bluish grey, and bright whites. In the background, the trees and land are suggested by flat areas of colour, while the sky, widely open, displays a particularly fresh palette of grey blues, turquoise, powder pinks, lilacs, and pale yellows. The texture is generous and spontaneous, constructed with visible brush strokes, overlays, and bold flat areas. The outlines of the boats and the landscape are deliberately simplified, giving the whole a free style, straddling the line between figuration and abstraction. The vibrancy of the colours, the contrasts between the light hulls and the dark vegetation masses, as well as the play of reflections, impart a summery and particularly luminous atmosphere to the scene. A contemporary work that fits within a tradition of modern landscape and marine painting, with an expressive approach to colour and brushwork reminiscent of certain post-impressionist and expressionist explorations of the 20th century. Not signed. Horizontal canvas measuring 92 × 73 cm. Very good overall condition. Sold unframed.
