Willy Rizzo coffee table bar `Alveo` for Mario Sabot, burl walnut & brass, 1970`s ca, Italian

The `Alveo` design (translated as `riverbed`) has been published in several publications: the July/August 1972 issue of the design periodical Casa Vogue, Maison & Jardin, September issue 1973, page 131; and `Le retour de Willy Rizzo`, AD, number 86, September issue 2009, page 54. This Rizzo design was also exhibited at the 1973 Salone del Mobile in Milan. At the centre of the generous size walnut rectangular top there sits a dry bar/display area with a removable solid polished brass insert. There are additional sculptural details such as the faceted polished solid brass corners. The top sits on a recessed plinth base giving a `floating` appearance which was a popular design feature of the time. The base has 4 new felt portions underneath to protect the floor below. The handcrafted wood veneer is in quality burl walnut of a rich shade of brown/blonde colour. The wood is placed creating beautiful `butterfly` effect areas. The veneer has still a rich uniform colour and the original soft matt lacquer finish. This vintage table is in very good condition for its age. The vintage patina has been preserved on the wood & metal surfaces. The structural frame is sound with no damages. The wood has uniformity of colour and a clean finish without watermarks to the top surface. There is light surface patina such as light scratches/marks but no cracks or large chips. The top surface finish is slightly rubbed & has become slightly matt with use, as expected for a vintage piece, but this effect is rather uniform. The brass corners are in good condition with some patina adding character. The removable brass dry bar compartment is in good condition and sound, with some rubbing and marks of wear in line with age & use.
