Rare pair of Kastor wall sconces, designed by Jo Hammerborg for the renowned Danish lighting manufacturer Fog & Mørup around 1969. The Kastor model is one of Hammerborg's most sculptural lighting designs. Each sconce consists of three elongated and curved elements in copper, arranged around an orange lacquered metal structure. Their overlapping shapes conceal the light source while allowing a warm glow to escape between the copper shades and onto the wall. The highly reflective copper surfaces give the lamps a marked architectural quality when turned off, while the orange interior intensifies the warm ambient light when they are on. The Kastor collection was produced in copper and brass, and included pendant, wall sconce, and floor lamp versions. The copper version, with its orange interior, is particularly noteworthy. The lamps are in good vintage condition with signs of age-related wear, including scratches, fine surface marks, and a patina on the copper. These signs are consistent with their age and particularly visible upon close inspection due to the highly reflective finish. One lamp retains its original Fog & Mørup label – Made in Denmark. A rare opportunity to acquire a matching pair of this expressive Danish modern design. Sold as a pair.
