Curved pedestal desk in veined walnut, leather surface, late Victorian period.

We are delighted to offer for sale this superb late Victorian desk, made of veined walnut with a brown leather writing surface, manufactured around 1900 by Withy Grove Stores LTD Manchester. It is a very aesthetic and well-designed antique desk. The top is hand-stained brown with gilding, and the frame is entirely made of walnut with veined walnut drawers. It features so-called 'cushion curves' under the recessed top drawers, a rare model. The desk has been cleaned, waxed, and polished from top to bottom. One drawer handle is missing, but it is in very good condition. Dimensions: Height 78 cm, Width 117 cm, Depth 64.5 cm, Seat Height 59 cm, Seat Width 46.5 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest point. The natural leather shows a patina with cracks, creases, and wear, which is normal for its age. The hand-stained leather should not be exposed to sunlight for long periods to prevent it from drying out and discolouring.
