Oil on canvas. Central European school, 18th century. The dinner frames the entrance of a port overlooked by a fortress, towards which several ships are sailing. On the quay in the foreground is a group of figures, several of whom are dressed in Eastern clothing, thus placing the port in a southern location, likely overlooking the Mediterranean. The work is part of the European artistic production that yielded to the taste for Eastern subjects or, at least, for places in the southern hemisphere; an example of this style is Ignaz Franz Joseph Flurer (1688–1742), an Austrian painter who created works very similar to this one. The painting has been restored and relined in the past. It is presented in a period frame.
