Barcelona chair, designed in 1929 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with Lilly Reich and manufactured by Knoll International. Mies van der Rohe, the last director of the Bauhaus and one of the greatest architects of the 20th century, created this chair for the German pavilion at the Barcelona World Fair, where it was intended to serve as seating for the Spanish royal couple. The model is still manufactured in its unchanged form by Knoll and is among the great icons of modernism. The elegant X-shaped base, curved, made of polished mirror-finish chrome flat steel, supports the seat and back cushions with their characteristic pattern of individually tufted and piped leather panels. The chair is upholstered in Knoll's Venezia full-grain leather, supple, in a rich chocolate brown that adds a welcoming warmth to the rigorous geometry. Authenticity is fully documented: the chair bears a Knoll serial number, Knoll labels are found under the cushion and on the chrome leg, where the label is still protected by the original protective film. The Knoll certificate of authenticity is also provided. Condition: showroom model in like-new condition – no signs of use, impeccable leather. Only a tiny flaw in the chrome is present on the rear glide. An interesting alternative to buying new, significantly below the current catalogue price. A classic of timeless design for discerning interiors. Dimensions: approx. 75 × 77 × 77 cm, seat height 43 cm (width × depth × height)
