Arched fawn mail trunk 1920s - 100 x 54 x 46 cm

This beautiful piece, weighing almost 20 kg and with an original chassis, dates from the 1920s/1930s and must come from Germany, Austria or Alsace. It is a wood which is chosen mainly for its lightness and the flexibility of this type of wood which is supposed to resist falls. The slats, made of beech, are curved or bent using a revolutionary process for heating the wood with steam or in an oven and thus giving it curved shapes. The covering is in coated canvas. It is more resistant to bad weather, lighter and less fragile than the leather previously used. Jewelry: the locks are made of brass. The brackets and ball brackets are made of brass-plated metal. The edges are protected from impacts by stripped metal and repainted with brown anti-corrosion metal paint. Leather side handles. French tricolor flag in a strip on each side of the trunk.
