Very beautiful display cabinet or Napoleon III console table, bearing the stamp of Charles LALLEMAN, in Rouen. Circa 1860. The stamp, partially faded, was difficult to decipher. Rouen is unambiguous, as is the street number, 7, and the profession of "Upholsterer"... But the name was harder to read. Thanks to a few enthusiasts of Rouen's history, I traced Lalleman, who worked at 7 rue St Romain, in Rouen, from 1858 to 1866. The "Journal de Rouen" published the following announcement on 2 June 1858: NOTICE: The heirs of Mr BARBIER, upholsterer, rue Saint-Romain, at No. 7, inform his numerous clientele that they have just ceded the continuation of the business to his worker, Mr CHARLES LALLEMAND, who has been employed in this house for seventeen years (...). He will strive to prove himself worthy of the trust you will be kind enough to bestow upon him." As a side note, Lallemand married shortly after and worked until 30 March 1866, the date of his death in Rouen. This small mahogany veneered piece, typical of the period's productions, features superb finishes and a luminous patina. The two curved, glazed doors open with an original two-point brass lock and their key, revealing two adjustable shelves on brackets. Above is a discreet drawer with beautiful inlay work. The uprights are elegantly adorned with floral motifs carved from solid wood. Curved on all sides, particularly well-crafted, this piece is in superb condition apart from a few rare signs of wear or minor touch-ups (notably on the left side of the drawer, very barely visible) but is in excellent condition, solid and stable. Ready for immediate use. Rest assured, Mr Lallemand, 140 years after his death, will not betray the trust you will kindly place in him by acquiring his piece. The work of excellence, often distinguished by a stamp, does not fear the passage of time. L: 98.5 cm. D: 42 cm. H: 96 cm. The price is firm, thank you. Delivery in IDF for 40 euros.
