Mid-century modern vase, soda glass, designed by J.S. Drost, Ząbkowice, Poland, 1970s

A vase from the Ząbkowice glassworks, designed by Jan Sylwester Drost and made by Stanisław Macha in Poland in the 1970s, is an example of expressive mid-century modern design in soda glass. Its thick, uniformly formed walls are covered with a marbled pattern – dynamically and irregularly interpenetrating warm tones of orange, amber, red, white, and yellow – achieved through advanced glass mass colouring techniques. The condition is very good, with no losses, cracks, or significant signs of age, retaining its original colour and shine.
