100 chips in galalith

These chips are hard to find, they are to be handled by adults and children because of their rarity: indeed they are "milk stone". In 1893, Auguste Trillat (father of Jean-Jacques Trillat), a french scientist, finds a way to insolubiliser the casein (milk protein) by adding formalin which guarantees its strategy2. In 1897, the discovery is patented in Germany by Wilhelm Krische and Austrian chemist Adolf Spitteler (1846-1940) under the name of Galalith. Its production process was developed in the early 20th century. Casein accounts for about thirty grams of material per litre of milk. It was much used in the years 1920-1930 to make jewelry. Institutions A. Bonaz Oyonnax in France and Jakob Bengel in Germany were the two major users of this material to achieve beautiful and typical Art deco jewelry. However, there are a few boutonniers and a jewelry designer who still use it. Indeed his qualities are there: biodegradable, anti-allergic, anti-static but especially his big possibility to be dyed, it is possible that she again appeared. Today, Galalith is used by counterfeiters to imitate ivory because its appearance is close enough. Galalith is also used for the filming of handcrafted pens.
