Military camp bed

An old camp bed, known as a Picot bed in reference to Jules Picot, who in 1877 designed a camp bed consisting of a canvas fixed to two side rails, each equipped with three legs that, when spread apart, provide tension to the canvas. This clever bed allows for sleeping off the ground to stay clear of moisture and pests and was adopted by the French army throughout the 20th century (World Wars, Indochina...) ---- The canvas shows slight signs of use; however, it has been carefully washed with stain remover. It is sturdy with no tears. Stamped 1944 - One of the two side support bars is missing - dimensions: L195cm X W69cm X H44cm.
