Very beautiful set of 4 black chairs model Sélène by the Italian designer Vico Magistretti, edition Artemide, 1969. In 1969, the Selene chair was one of the first monobloc chairs made of fibreglass and moulded plastic, alongside Joe Colombo's Universal chair. It was Enesto Gismondi, then director of Artemide, who, upon returning from a trip to Germany, suggested the idea to Magistretti of using these new processes. The following year, he would develop the Selene into 2 other versions: the Gaudi armchair and the Vicario lounge chair. Magistretti was known for his rational approach to design, and he started with a clear idea in mind: "I did not want a chair to be made of several different parts; I wanted a single unit." The 4 chairs are in very good vintage condition. They do not have any significant scratches or breaks. There may be slight signs of wear relative to their age, but they are very barely noticeable. All 16 glides are present, and the manufacturer's stamp from Artemide can be found under each chair. Seat height: 45cm.
