Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010) Signed lithograph: Memory of Japan, 1987

Only copy available! A poetic image in which a made-up young lady, accompanied by her tabby cat, looks at herself in a mirror under a starry night. The motif of the night and the twinkling of the stars has been a recurring theme for corneille since his early abstract period, it is a reference to van gogh' s starry nights. Large lithograph signed and dated by the artist' s hand, 58 X 44 cm, with atelier corneille stamp on the back. Artist proof. Very good condition identified as an important figure in the renewal of abstraction in northern europe, corneille gradually moved from 1967 towards a rich and colorful new figuration which coordinates with the pop art taste of the 1960s and 1970s, and exhibits alongside andy warhol, arman, césar, etc.
