We offer for sale this sublime modernist-style dining table, a remarkable piece of french design from the 1960s and 1970s, combining refined materials, geometric precision, and sculptural power in a rare and perfectly balanced ensemble. Its oval top, 160 X 110 cm, is carved from sumptuous arabescato marble, a high-quality italian marble identifiable by its ivory-white background traversed by highly contrasting gray, almost black, veins in tormented and organic networks. This precious stone, extracted in the apuan alps in tuscany, was highly prized at that time for its pictorial rendering and visual nobility - much more expressive than the more common carrara marble. Resting on a mixed central base, made of a cylindrical chromed steel shaft finished with four polished solid aluminum legs, forming a cross-shaped base, this type of hybrid design, combining two noble metals, reflects great technical mastery, often encountered in excellent italian or french productions of the 1970s - notably at roche bobois, maison jansen or certain workshops influenced by milanese rationalism - and ensures perfect freedom around the top, allowing up to eight guests to be comfortably seated.
