“we are diving, farewell!” On the back is written the phrase “to say that this had to be done during the war of 14!” This drawing by French artist Jules Grandjouan attacks German U-boats and their crews who left civilians to die in the water. The RMS (Royal Mail Ship) Lusitania is a British transatlantic liner armed by the Cunard Company and launched on June 7, 1906. Its name comes from the Roman province of Lusitania. Its torpedoing by the submarine U-20 during the First World War on May 7, 1915, off the coast of Ireland, caused the death of 1,200 people out of 2,000 passengers and crew members, while the ship was allegedly carrying a load of ammunition. This torpedoing, which caused the death of 128 people of American nationality, played an important role in the increasingly strong hostility of the United States towards Germany, until their involvement from April 6, 1917. Jules Grandjouan is a French designer, painter, poster designer, revolutionary trade unionist and libertarian anarchist. He was born in Nantes on December 22, 1875 and died in Nantes on November 12, 1968. On the back of the poster Grandjouan drew the head of a character. The poster has been restored by a professional.
