Heywood and dixon, in the 19th century, specialized in furniture made from australian cedar, a superb, very resistant species of wood, subtly tinted and wonderfully grained. Our chest of drawers is typical of their work: high, imposing but elegant, it therefore offers this superb patina and these exceptional patented handles - fixed using a clever screw system, they bear, on the back, the words "dixon's patent " (apart from two which have been retyped at the back only) and a small metal disc in their center. Darker than the rest of the furniture, they create a striking contrast, supported by the dark strips of the facade towers. There are 5 drawers, two of which are narrower at the top, each with two handles and a functional lock (there is no longer a key). Entirely in solid wood, right down to the back boards, it rests on pretty scrolled plinths which give it a beautiful seat. It has been completely cleaned: the top is without defects, as are the sides or fronts. Some superficial signs of wear but the general condition is excellent. These chests of drawers, typical of the excellence of english design, have a very warm and discreet presence at the same time (it is shallow for a chest of drawers but its large drawers offer beautiful storage spaces). Elegant but subtle. Of course, my dear.: d l: 125 cm. Depth: 45 cm. H: 129 cm.
