A solid oak sideboard, in the pure Rococo spirit of the 18th century, made at the very end of the 19th century. This two-part piece consists of a closed low sideboard with two drawers and two doors decorated with shells, topped with an open shelf intended to display the finest pieces of crockery. The pediment is adorned with an asymmetrical shell sculpted in high relief, surrounded by scrolls and floral motifs, a rare decoration due to its richness: the sculpture covers the pediment, the uprights, the medallion of the backrest, and each door panel. The cabriole legs end in a deer foot, in the strictest tradition of the style. Such a level of detail was not afforded to all interiors: this type of piece adorned the dining rooms of bourgeois houses in the provinces, where one enjoyed hosting and showcasing their Sunday crockery. The wood is sound, the patina is beautiful and true to the age of the piece. The drawers and doors of both levels are original, with their bronze fittings, except for the two locks and keys of the lower body, which are missing (the doors therefore do not lock in their current state). A piece with strong character, capable of setting the tone for a dining room or a living room on its own.
