Lot of 3 large antique ironstone ramekins with a delicate midnight blue stencil pattern. Stamped with the motto "honi soit qui mal y pense" associated with the Order of the Garter, a British order of chivalry. It translates into French as "shame on him who sees evil in it". It often appears on objects related to the British monarchy or royal institutions. And "dieu et mon droit" personal motto of British monarchs since Henry V. It means "god and my right" (my divine right to reign) and symbolizes royal authority. Initials "hb" which could correspond to the Choisy le Roi factory. These ramekins could be pieces made to commemorate a royal event... A trio in excellent condition, ready to accommodate sweet or savory treats. Careful shipping.
